Biography
An outstanding draftsman and painter. He studied art from 1924 to 1929 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He created mainly book illustrations—pen-and-ink drawings characterized by a light touch, often washed with gouache or tempera. From 1945 to 1956, he was associated with the weekly magazine *Przekrój*. He gained great popularity for his views of old Warsaw, his illustrations depicting the lives of its residents, and his whimsical scenes created with a light touch, full of humor and imagination. He illustrated classics of Polish and foreign literature. He also worked in theater, television, and film set design, and designed posters.
