Stanislaw DYBOWSKI
1895 - 1956
He was initially educated at the Drawing School in Warsaw. He continued his studies in 1917-1919 with Kuturlin in Moscow and in 1923-1926 at the School of Fine Arts in Warsaw with Karol Tiche and WładysławSkoczylas. In 1926 he went to Paris, where he created and exhibited. In 1932 he received a scholarship from TZSP , which enabled him to travel to Italy and continue his studies. After returning to Poland, he settled in Warsaw. He was awarded many times. He exhibited mainly in Warsaw's Zachęta Gallery, Lodz's Municipal Art Gallery, Krakow's TPSP and in Paris' Au Sacre du Printemps gallery. He was a member of the Association of Painters Pro Arte. He continued the traditions of Jan Stanislawski. He painted correct, decorative landscapes with misty tones, in which architectural motifs often appear. He was also interested in folklore: he painted folk types and interiors of country cottages, those of Lowicz, Hutsul, Podhale, Vilnius, Silesia, Cracow, in which he noted ethnographic details with sometimes documentary fidelity. Less frequently, he created portraits and still lifes. During the Nazi occupation, he earned money by trading in paintings and frames. During the Warsaw Uprising, many of his works were destroyed.
