"PIPER LONG.": which is the Latin name for long pepper (Piper longum), a spice that was also used as a medicine. The other container bears the inscription "SUCC LIQUIT.": which could refer to "Succus Liquiritiae", i.e. licorice syrup or extract. The third jar has the inscription "SACHAR ALE": which probably refers to "Saccharum Albi", i.e. white sugar, which was also used in various pharmaceutical preparations.
