Leopold Méyet (1850 - 1912) - Polish legal theorist, lawyer, collector of Romantic era memorabilia, bibliophile, writer and philanthropist. In February 1909, approved as a member of the committee to build a monument to Chopin in Warsaw (Lazienki Park). From May 20, 1909 to 1912 secretary of the Committee.
He came from an assimilated Jewish family of French origin. He studied at the elite and patriotic Jan Nepomucen Leszczynski School and at the First Real Gymnasium in Warsaw. He studied at the Faculty of Law and Administration at the Warsaw High School, and after its closure defended his diploma at the Russian Imperial University in Warsaw in 1870. In 1873 he contributed to the establishment of the "Library of Legal Skills." He collaborated with such periodicals as "Pravda", "Niwa", "Ivy", "Kółko Domowe", "Świat", "Świt", "Tygodnik Ilustrowany", "Kurier Warszawski" and "Biesiada Literacka". He published studies in the legal field, as well as texts of a social and cultural nature. His artistic literary work was not appreciated by the critics of the time. One of the main issues to which he devoted himself was grassroots work aimed at assimilating Polish Jews into society. He associated with the intelligentsia that grew up on the ideals of positivism. He had a cordial friendship with Eliza Orzeszkowa, Stanisław Krzemiński, Maria Konopnicka, Wilhelmina Zyndram-Kościałkowska, Piotr Chmielowski, Aleksander Świętochowski, Aleksander Kraushar, Samuel Dickstein, Henryk Dobrzycki, Salomon Lewental and Jan Karłowicz (he wrote legal entries for his Dictionary). He was a member of the Warsaw Scientific Society.
