Biography
Draughtsman, painter, graphic artist. Around 1881 he went to St. Petersburg, where he began studying painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in the class of G. Willewald. In 1890 he went to Warsaw, where he earned money as a draftsman for various magazines. A year later, he went to the Académie Julian, where he first attended a sculpture class and then studied painting in the studio of A. W. Bouguereau, among others. However, he was most absorbed by drawing, to which he devoted himself almost entirely. In Paris, he drew for Illustration and Monde Illustré, and his drawings also appeared in London's The Graphic. At the turn of the 20th century, he established a permanent collaboration with the Illustrated Weekly. The primary domain of Kamienski's work was drawing. He drew in crayon, pastels, used gouache, ink and charcoal. He was also known as an outstanding portraitist, and was strongly associated with the Polish community of journalists, writers and poets.
