Artwork description:
Zofia Stryjeńska is one of the most recognizable Polish artists. Her paintings dealt primarily with folk themes. Her work was characterized by fanciful multicolored and dynamic representations.
The work on offer depicts a mountain chamois standing confidently in a meadow densely covered with wild vegetation. Despite the sketchy nature of the composition, the sharp, strong lines characteristic of Zofia Stryjeńska are discernible at first glance.
The artist repeatedly depicted genre scenes set in mountainous, usually Tatra, scenery. In addition to the piled-up landscape, she also depicted animals, such as roe deer, sheep, dogs and just goats. The work presented in the auction offer has the ornamentality so characteristic of Zofia Stryjeńska, which makes the compositions she created capable of timeless decoration.
