Louis Barruol, Saint Cosme, Saint-Joseph 0.75L 13%, 2013 vintage; Château de Saint Cosme Gigondas 0.75L 14%, 2013 vintage; Gigondas is a village in the southern Rhone Valley and the appellation for red and rosé wines. Both wines are made from up to 80% Grenache (according to the appellation's regulations), with at least 15% consisting of Syrah and Mourvedre. Saint-Joseph, in France's northern Rhone Valley, is probably the region's largest appellation in terms of geographic coverage. The appellation's title encompasses both red wine made primarily from Syrah and white wine made from Marsanne and Roussanne blended in various proportions. White wines account for only one in ten bottles produced in Saint-Joseph and are dry with honeyed, floral aromas and balanced weight and acidity. They provide a stark contrast to the sweet Muscat de Beaumes-de- Venise wines from the southern Rhône and the heavier Viognier-based wines from Condrieu and Château- Grillet.
