Distillery description
Clynelish, a distillery located in the picturesque town of Brora in the northern Highlands of Scotland, was founded in 1819 by the Duke of Sutherland. Initially, it focused on producing whisky for blends, which were in high demand. A significant development occurred in 1968 when a new still (Clynelish B) was built alongside the original (Clynelish A). While the new distillery continued producing unsmoked single malt, the original became Brora, known for its smoky spirit. Brora closed in 1983, enhancing its cult status, but was reopened in 2021 by Diageo due to rising demand. Clynelish is a key ingredient in Johnnie Walker blends and is appreciated by single malt enthusiasts for its distinctive notes of beeswax, citrus, and sea salt
