Château Balac Haut-Medoc 0.75L 13%, 2015 vintage case - 6 bottles; Just a few kilometers from Pauillac and thus from the Grands Crus Classés is Château Balac, Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois. The Touchais family has reigned here for 3 generations. Joseph Touchais, a native of Anjou, bought the domaine in 1964, or at least what was left of it, as the vineyard was gone and the château was completely destroyed. His son, Luc, took over the property from his father in 1973 to continue replanting the vineyard and restoring the domaine. A few years later, Château Balac is an estate with a wine value of 20 hectares. Since 2005, Lionel Touchais, Luc's son and an enology graduate from the University of Bordeaux, has been in charge of Château. Before taking over the reins from his father, he worked for 10 years at various wineries around the world and gained a wealth of experience there. He now runs the estate with his wife Amélie and continues to improve the winery. The work in the vineyard and in the cellar never stops. All grapes are harvested 100% by hand, as this is the best way to monitor quality, but also out of a desire to continue the tradition and experience the heartiness that comes with each year. Vinification is done entirely by Lionel. He combines tradition and innovation to achieve the best possible extraction of aromas and tannins. With each harvest, he makes quality decisions based on what nature brings him. After vinification, which is also carried out in the traditional way using modern techniques, the wine is aged in French oak for another 12 months for maturation. The coat is dark purple with aromas of dark fruits such as blackberries and black currants. The fruit dominates, rounded out with light vanilla notes. The tannins are soft and elegant.
