Arran Old Malt Cask 19 year old 0.7l 50% vintage 1996; Bottle one of 288. Construction of the Arran distillery began in 1994. It officially opened in June 1995. Two years later, the distillery was visited by the Queen herself, who received two casks for her grandsons William and Harry. Although the Arran distillery is very young, it offers a very large selection of whiskies. Arran does not filter its whiskeys by refrigeration. There is also a large selection of finishes in wine barrels. These include Sherry, Sauternes, Amarone and Port Wine casks. Distilled a year after the distillery opened, the 1996 Arran was aged in refill barrels for the Hunter Laing Old Malt Cask series. Bottled at age 19 in September 2015, it is sweet and creamy, with notes of vanilla and rhubarb. Estimated price: £580-700
