Distillery description
Ardmore is a Scottish distillery located near Kennethmont in Aberdeenshire, founded in 1898 by Adam Teacher, son of William Teacher, to provide malt whisky for the family's blended whisky. The location was chosen for its access to water, peat, barley cultivation, and the Inverness-Aberdeen railway for transport. While the distillery primarily contributes to the Teacher's brand, particularly for markets like India and Brazil, Ardmore also has limited single malt releases, with most of its output going into blends. Since 2014, it has been part of Beam Suntory.
Bottle description
Ardmore 1993 is a single malt whisky, bottled by independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail in 2008 as part of the Licensed Bottling series. This series is unique in that the whisky is bottled with official permission from the distilleries themselves, meaning that each bottling authentically represents the style and character of the distillery.
Nose: Light and fresh, with notes of freshly cut grass and subtle peat smoke. Herbal notes complement the fresh and clean nose.
Taste: Subtly spicy with sweet notes and a slight hint of ash that gives the whisky an interesting depth.
Finish: Long and warm, with lingering smoky and sweet elements.
This whisky is an excellent example of the classic peaty style that Ardmore offers, with balanced smoky and sweet notes.
