In 1940-42 he studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Cracow under S. Kamocki, J. Mehoffer and A. Jurkiewicz. He continued his studies after the war, from 1945-48, at the Academy of Fine Arts under W. Weiss, Eibisch and L. Gradowski. Since 1972, he ran his own studio at the Faculty of Painting. In 1987-93 he was rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, and in 1986 was appointed professor. His work is dominated by genre scenes, landscapes, still lifes and portraits. His paintings, full of expression, sometimes verging on abstract forms, are saturated with an extremely vivid, sometimes sharp color palette. The artist has also worked in monumental painting, design graphics and drawing film. His paintings are in many museums, including those in Moscow and the Uffizi Museum in Florence, as well as many museums in Poland.
