PROCESS of 11 Brest prisoners before the District Court of Warsaw. Cieszyn 1932 - Nakł. Pawel Kaleta. 8, p. 240. binding. fl.
Tight margins of extreme pages, stains in places, copy quite badly cut by bookbinder. An account of the court trial of the political leaders of the Centrolew, former prisoners of the Brest Fortress, held from October 26, 1931 to January 13, 1932 before the District Court in Warsaw. "The growing situation of confrontation between Sanation and opposition groups led to the arrest of more than a dozen former deputies whose parliamentary immunity had expired after the dissolution of the Sejm [...]. The action was carried out on the express orders of Jozef Pilsudski [...]. The arrests were made on the night of September 9-10, 1930, in many cases in a brutal manner. The first official communiqué of the Polish Telegraphic Agency cited criminal offenses such as theft, fraud and misappropriation as reasons for the arrests [...]. Those arrested were imprisoned in Brest-on-the-Bug, in a specially prepared military prison in the Brest fortress [...]. Strict provisions of military prison regulations were applied to the prisoners. The inmates were treated brutally. Executions were simulated, they were beaten and harassed" (Wikipedia). Of the 11 defendants, one was acquitted; the others were given sentences ranging from 3 to 1.5 years in prison. Illustrations in the text.
