The French text was first published in 1883; the present edition was prepared by G. Apollinaire and provided by him with an introduction and bibliographical list. A "Catalogo di tutte le principal et piu honorate cortegiane di Venezia" has been added at the end, containing the names and addresses of 210 prostitutes and the prices for their services. Also listed are the names and addresses of pimps, a profession practiced by many women.
