In 1989, the artist began one of his most important painting series, "Diaries," for which he was awarded the Grand Prix of the XXII International Painting Festival in Cagnes-sur-Mer in 1990. The series is an incredibly private and even intimate record of the passage of time. Important̨ are the formal treatments, texturalitý and uniformitý of the composition, which is given a monumental character by the works, enhanced by the very concept of counting the passing of time. Despite the repetition of elements, each work is unique.
"Painting in solitude - putting up ordered rows of seven dashes crossed with an eighth, falling into a rhythm - was close to meditation suspending for a moment the course of time and realitý around. >For a time I disappear, I am gone. It used tó be able to last́ several hours, but now I makę myself such holidays of only a few minutes<". - Vladimir Pawlak
