Excellent male portrait by a student of the School of Fine Arts in Cracow at the time. Compositions from such an early period of his work deserve special attention from collectors. At that time, the artist was eager to paint historical compositions, drawing inspiration from his professor Jan Matejko. As early as 1896, Wojciech Weiss embarks on a tour of Europe. In 1895-1898, he studies in the master class of Leon Wyczółkowski. What draws attention in the presented painting is the veristic rendering of the figure. The artist carefully reproduces especially the man's face. The poignant look attracts the viewer's attention.
