Amazing set of memorabilia of the prisoners of the Lodz ghetto.
The set includes:
- banknotes, which were means of payment in the Lodz Ghetto - 10 marks and the rarer 2 marks (st.4)
- a postcard from the camp, with a censorship control stamp, sent to Palestine.
- photos and documents including passport of an Israeli citizen.
- decorations: Auschwitz Cross and a very rare Medal for a former Auschwitz-Birkenau prisoner with the letter B.
On the website of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, this is how the group of prisoners with the letter B is described:
"Series "A" and "B" for Jewish men and women.
The largest group of deportees to Auschwitz-Birkenau were Jews from more than 20 European countries. Until 1944, both Jewish men and women were issued numbers from general series. In May 1944, the camp authorities decided to distinguish all Jewish prisoners with a separate number series system. The idea was to start the series for Jewish men and women with consecutive letters of the alphabet. Under such a system, from May 1944 until the end of the camp's operation, were issued:
- 20,000 numbers with the letter "A" - Jewish prisoners
- 15,000 numbers with the letter "B" - inmate Jews
- 30,000 issues with the letter "A" - female prisoners"
All glued to specially prepared cards. A great treat for history buffs, collectors of camp money including the Lodz ghetto in particular, as well as those interested in phallic art.
