Biography
Born in 1950 in Poznań, Poland. In 1974 he graduated from the Poznan State Higher School of Fine Arts, where he studied in the studios of Z. Kepinski and M. Abakanowicz. He works in painting, drawing, sculpture and fabric. At the beginning of his artistic activity, his art was counted among the so-called "new figuration", but later the artist proposed his own painting language. His paintings are covered with expressive color spots and create the illusion of three-dimensional space. In the artist's later works the human individual appeared. Andrew Fogtt uses a special - mixed with magnetic dust - paint, which, when placed on the painting, gives the impression of matter vibrating in space - a series of works entitled. "Energy Space." In 1984 he won the Grand Prix at the Festival of Polish Contemporary Painting in Szczecin, the same year he represented Polish art at the Venice Biennale. In 1989, he created the design of the "Tower of European Unity", intended to be a world center for humanitarian aid organizations, and the "Gate of the Shed" For China in 2000. The glass "Tower", the first model of which was built in 1992, is also to house concert halls, theaters, galleries. A. Fogtt planned its location on the banks of the Vistula River in Warsaw. His works are in the collections of the National Museum in Szczecin, Wroclaw, Kielce, Prague, the Art Museum in Lodz, numerous galleries and private collections.
