Work description:
The composition of the presented work is complex and combines Bronislawa Rychter-Janowska's love of depicting the interiors of Polish manor houses and their inhabitants, as well as gardens overflowing with greenery. The painting incorporates a number of solutions characteristic of the artist's paintings.
The interior, shown in the foreground, opens with a two-door passage to a landscape located in the background with a flower bed enlivened with red flowers. Thanks to this, the painter achieved depth and an interesting layout, which enabled her to build contrasting chiaroscuro parts affecting the mood and decorative qualities of the whole. The depicted living room is filled with various furniture and objects, including a portrait on the wall, which convincingly convey the aura of a landed house. In the work on display, Bronislava Rychter-Janowska also immortalized two female figures returning from a walk, one of whom, a younger lady, is holding a handful of flowers probably just picked from the garden. She is followed by a dark-dressed, elegant older woman with a headpiece on her head.
Bronislawa Rychter-Janowska's painting is distinguished by the above-mentioned complexity of compositional solutions and an exquisite formal layer, which is characterized by precision (including in the rendering of the floor parquet) and sensitivity to light and color, thanks to which the viewer can almost feel on his skin the warmth of the summer sun in the garden and the soothing coolness of the living room interior.
