"Ethics of Solidarity" is an absolutely unique text in Polish philosophical literature. It accompanied the political events of 1980-1981 - primarily the formation of the "Solidarity" movement - and was an attempt at an ethical interpretation of what was happening. It was in its pages that Father Tischner formulated the famous definition of solidarity as "brotherhood for the paralyzed" based on the principle: "bear one another's burdens."
The first edition of Ethics of Solidarity was translated into Italian, German, Flemish, French, Spanish, Swedish, English, Czech and Slovak. In 1992, Father Tischner prepared an expanded edition entitled Ethics of Solidarity and Homo sovieticus for Znak Publishing House.
