The most successful editorial venture in Poland until the end of the 19th century, and few equals later. Samuel Orgelbrand 1810-1869 engaged the most prominent Polish scholars and writers to carry out his project, which took 10 years to compile. a huge number of, mostly elaborate entries, often having the form of small articles. S. Orgelbrand's encyclopedia contains numerous entries, including personal entries, for Old Polish history and for general history, which in later editions of various works of this nature were no longer to be found or had a truncated form, making the work of an outstanding bookseller, publisher and antiquarian like S. Orgelbrand an invaluable source of handy knowledge. "One of the best original Polish encyclopedias . This encyclopedia has retained great factual and historical value to this day. It was published in Warsaw, which was then in the Polish lands of the Russian partition. Its content was censored by the tsarist office. Later reissues of the first edition in the years (1872-1876; 1877-1879; 1883-1884, 1898-1904) were even more truncated in volume. This is one of the most important Polish encyclopedias published in a rich binding with gilding, which will be a noticeable decoration of any library. Period half leather binding plus 13 volumes bound contemporary with the originals, very good condition, undated ownership stamps.
