Jan Chelminski painted 48 oil paintings, commissioned by the publisher, depicting the uniforms of officers and soldiers of the Army of the Duchy of Warsaw. The 8 black-and-white and 2 color plates feature portraits of the most prominent Polish army commanders of the Napoleonic era, as well as banners and flag eagles. The text in French, by A. M. Malibran, deals with the history of the various formations of the Polish army after the fall of the Republic. Published by J.
