Biography
Wladyslaw Wankie was a painter and art critic. His work was highly regarded by the Polish artistic community, and was almost completely forgotten after his death. He studied painting in Warsaw - Wojciech Gerson called him his best student. He later studied in Krakow with Jan Matejko and in Munich, where he spent most of his creative life. Initially he painted realistic genre scenes and landscapes, but later in his paintings one can find influences of impressionist painting and German symbolic painting.
