Here is a medal combining rarity and excellent provenance.
A medal from 1673, minted on the occasion of the siege of Chocim and the storming of the Turkish camp by the Poles. Described by Emeryk Hutten-Czapski with a high degree of rarity of R5, which is also reflected in numismatic archives. We only have it on offer 2 times (first at auction in 2018).
A great advantage of this medal is its provenance: ex. the Potocki collection (punca Pilawa in the obverse field) and the mysterious collection known, among other things, for the multi-ducate and multi-dollar coins of Royal Poland (round punca on the rim, at 12 o'clock).
Nice state of preservation. Mirror on the reverse and between the letters of the obverse. Matted in the free space of the obverse and near the rim of the reverse. Light patina.
Silver, diameter 43.5 mm, weight 25.55 g.
Obverse: Turkish camp near Chocim being stormed by Polish troops:
MARTINI MEMORANDA DIES ET FAUSTA POLONIS Ao. MDCLXXIII(St. Martin's day memorable and happy to the Poles in the year 1673).
Reverse: inscription in 8 lines between two wreaths:
Regius aethereas quaerit dum Spiritus arces, TURCICA Bellator SARMATA castra domat. Quid rex non potuit, vitam nisi fata negassent, Haec agere auspicio qui moriente potest(When the King into the heavenly tabernacles exalts himself, the Sarmatian warrior takes the Turkish camps. What would the King not have accomplished, if the fates had not denied him life, when dying with his support he could have accomplished so much).
