Iza Rostworowska—sculptor, designer (including glass and set design). Born in the Podkarpacie region, in an old town surrounded by the mysterious Sandomierz Forest. She completed her full-time studies at the Department of Interior Architecture and a postgraduate program in Set Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. In her second year of studies, she co-designed the set for the cult play “The Crazy Locomotive.” She is the designer of a world-renowned collection of unique glassware, which originated at the “Fistka” glassworks in Tarnów. The design, not protected by copyright, took on a life of its own; over the course of 30 years, it was developed and refined by hundreds of small glassworks throughout Poland, giving rise to an entire branch of the glass industry.
She has exhibited her work in galleries, small exhibition spaces, and museums in Germany, Denmark, and Poland. Her works are found in private collections around the world.
The sculptures are made of bronze using the “lost-wax” method. They are inspired by ancient cultures and the beliefs of Mediterranean peoples, as well as by Christianity. As the artist explains, her works “clothe in material form the eternal faith, hope, and experience of the richness of the beings of the invisible world; angels, seraphim, hierarchies, kingdoms, saints, and all the messengers and helpers who accompany us on our journey.”
