50x70, oil on canvas
(Born 1949 in Slawatycze on the Bug River)
Graduated from the State High School of Fine Arts in Zamosc, studied at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, in the studio of Professor Zdzislaw Przebindowski and Professor Czeslaw Rzepinski. He lives and works in Uhryn in Beskid Sądecki. He is a landscape painter, a master of fading twilight in violets, whose paintings exude the joy of being in nature and the greed of its contemplation. He is a lover and breeder of horses - the horse is a frequent character in his paintings and a faithful companion on a daily basis.
As prominent Cracow art critic Jerzy Madeyski (1931-2005) wrote about Chomiczewski's paintings: "Following the example of Chelmoński or Stanislavski, he also likes the natural landscape, unspoiled by civilization, and enjoys its mood, known in those days as stimmung. Stimmung was, according to German critics, a classic attribute of the famous "Polish landscape," Die Polonische Landschaft, as it was called in Munich and throughout the world. In turn, the natural complement to the broad, borderland landscape is the horse. But not a poor, overworked chabeta, but a thoroughbred horse in the wild. Beautiful and free in its stride, this horse about which a poet of the time wrote that there are three most beautiful things in the world: a sailing ship under full sails, a beautiful woman in a dance and a purebred Arabian horse in the wild. Both in oil and pastel techniques, Chomiczewski's technique satisfies every connoisseur, proficiency in handling techniques, freedom, mastery of the craft is in itself a valuable and increasingly appreciated aesthetic value. The artist shapes emotions with color and light. He clearly draws on the post-impressionist experience with a kind of individual rethinking - no wonder, after all, it is post-impressionism, also known as 'Polish colorism,' that has become our national style."
