In 2018, he received the order "Meritorious for the Polish state and Polish culture.
The point of reference for his work is the Polish art of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. However, created in the convention of realistic paintings are very difficult to define, specify or describe. The mastery of the workshop, the constant, delicate color palette, the symbolic representation of content, while keeping compositional elements to a minimum, and the painterly mysteriousness are the features that make no one pass indifferently by Janusz Lewandowski's paintings. Symbolism is intrinsically romantic and so are Janusz Lewandowski's paintings.
