One of the sources mentioning the painter Zygmunt Sokolowski is the "Diary of the Society of Friends of Fine Arts" from 1854-1904, which presents the achievements of artists associated with the Cracow artistic community. It mentions that Zygmunt Sokolowski came from the Poznan region and died in Paris. He studied at the Cracow wszechnica, and then in 1879-1880 in Munich under Alexander Wagner. He finally settled in Paris in 1881 (sic!), and from then on also presented his works in the Society's exhibitions. One of the monumental canvases mentioned is "Joseph Sold by His Brothers" (1883), which was offered at a Polish auction house in 2014 and sold for more than a million zlotys.
